Southern Miss Gulf Coast Honors Students at 2010 Awards Day Recognition Ceremony PDF Print E-mail

In recognition of outstanding student achievement, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast held its Awards Day ceremony April 20 at the Advanced Education Center auditorium at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

During the ceremony, the university recognized outstanding students in each of the five academic colleges, the winner of the Susan Mallon Ross Award, the John Wallace Award in History and the students selected for the 2009-2010 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. The new slate of Student Government Association officers were also sworn into office for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The following students were recognized by their academic college as exceptional students:

 

* Susan Ross Excellence Award – Erica Shirk of Long Beach, bachelor of arts in American studies

*
 John Wallace Award in History – Mary Ann Green of Biloxi, bachelor of arts in history

 

* College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Political Science Student – Brad Irvin of Gautier, bachelor of arts in political science

 

* College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Freshman – Haddy Rikabi of Biloxi, bachelor of arts in political science

* College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Senior – Samantha Hebert of Pascagoula, bachelor of arts in radio, television and film

 

* College of Arts and Letters Outstanding Graduate – Matthew Williams of Biloxi, master of arts in political science

 

* College of Business Outstanding Freshman – William Cook of Gulfport, bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in management

 

* College of Business Outstanding Senior – Caleb Stephens of Pass Christian, bachelor of science in business administration

 

* College of Business Outstanding Graduate – Jason Brown of Ocean Springs, master of business administration

College of Education and Psychology Outstanding Senior – David Boudreaux of Gulfport, bachelor of science in psychology

 

* College of Education and Psychology Outstanding Graduate – Rex Moak of Moss Point, doctor of philosophy in higher education administration

*
College of Health Outstanding Freshman – Alexandra Ullrich of Long Beach, bachelor of social work for pre-social work

*
College of Health Outstanding Senior – James Dockery of Ocean Springs, bachelor of science in nursing

*
College of Health Outstanding Graduate – Michelle Faison of Gulfport, master of science in nursing for executive nursing


* College of Science and Technology Outstanding Senior – Carlo Fortner of Saucier, bachelor of science in geography

*
College of Science and Technology Outstanding Graduate – Scott Alsobrooks of Picayune, doctor of philosophy in human capital development

The following students were recognized as the 2009-2010 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges:

Student Government Association officers sworn in during the Awards Day Ceremony include:

President: Christopher Necaise of Diamondhead, a junior political science major.

 

* Vice President: Parisa Naghshpour of Long Beach, a graduate student in business administration. 

*  Attorney General: Zach Mellen of Long Beach, a freshman international studies major.

 

* Secretary: Paula Studstill of Gulfport, a junior industrial engineering technology major

 

* Treasurer: Marjorie Thara of Biloxi, a junior American Studies major.

 

* Graduate Representative: Stephanie Bell of D’Iberville.
