For the second year in a row, The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast set a new record for fall semester enrollment.
The total duplicated enrollment for Southern Miss Gulf Coast, which includes the Gulf Park campus and six coast teaching and research sites, is 3,066 as released by the State Institutions of Higher Learning.
There are 2,488 undergraduate students and 578 graduate students. Undergraduate student enrollment numbers increased 13.35 percent or 293 students from 2008.
“The success of our enrollment can be attributed to our Coast community who trusts Southern Miss to help them reach their educational goals,” said Dr. Pat Joachim, associate provost for Southern Miss Gulf Coast. “That, coupled with a consistent team effort of faculty, staff and administrators, has led to this record enrollment.”
The enrollment increase can be attributed to new initiatives at Southern Miss Gulf Coast that include online degree programs, new course offerings at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and a four-day class schedule.
Other Southern Miss Gulf Coast teaching and research sites include the Department of Marine Science and the Center of Higher Learning, located at the John C. Stennis Space Center in Hancock County; the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach; the Gulf Coast Student Service Center in Gulfport; the Keesler Air Force Base Teaching Site in Biloxi; the Point Cadet Teaching Site in Biloxi; the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs; and the Jackson County Teaching Site in Gautier.
Southern Miss Gulf Coast offers more than 50 degree programs with bachelor’s degrees for undergraduate students and master’s degrees, a specialist degree and doctoral degree programs for graduate students.
