University of Southern Mississippi junior Caroline Randolph is actively pushing toward a career in the financial sector but she has other ambitions that run as deep as Mother Earth.
Randolph, a Gulfport, Miss., native has taken an active role in protecting the environment and recently received an honorable mention scholarship from the Morris K. Udall Foundation. The Udall Foundation awards 80 scholarships and 50 honorable mentions to college sophomores and juniors who intend to pursue careers relating to the environment.
To demonstrate her commitment to environmental issues, Randolph founded the Mississippi Green Energy Initiative which aims to educate people on the Southern Miss campus as well as high school students about green energy practices and energy efficiency.
“I became interested in protecting the environment while researching for my senior thesis which addresses the potential renewable energy mandates and how the electricity industry has prepared for this risk,” said Randolph.
Randolph, who is majoring in finance and Spanish, has also served as a member of the Mississippi Biomass and Renewable Energy Council’s Board of Directors and a recipient of that group’s annual scholarship.
After completing her undergraduate requirements, Randolph plans to obtain a master’s of business administration while furthering her environmental objectives.
“I would like to be working in civil service on the Gulf Coast while also actively participating in local community initiatives concerning renewable energy and economic development in our state,” said Randolph.
