David Roy, a University of Southern Mississippi senior administration of justice student and a U.S. Army ROTC cadet from Slidell, recently received the George C. Marshall Award.

The Marshall award is given annually to the most outstanding cadet in the Army ROTC program at Southern Miss. It is named in honor of U.S. Army General George C. Marshall, who served as the Army’s Chief of Staff and Secretary of State and Defense. He authored the restorative Marshall Plan and was the only career soldier to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Roy, the son of Donald and Elizabeth Roy of Slidell, earned the honor for his professional excellence, leadership, personal integrity and selfless service to his country.
