The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music will present Danilo Mezzadri, assistant professor of flute in a chamber music recital at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at Marsh Auditorium, with guest artists Susan Ruggiero, soprano; clarinetist Andrea Cheesman and pianist Kumiko Shimizu.
The program will include chamber repertoire for various combinations of soprano, flute, clarinet and piano, ranging from jazz to classical to cowboy dances, by composers John Corigliano, Joseph Horovitz, Libby Larsen, Franz Schubert and Mark Snyder, composer in residence at Delta State University.
Dr. Mezzadri is an international prize-winning flutist and an active performer as a soloist, chamber and orchestral player. He has toured throughout Europe and the Americas and recently recorded a compact disc, featuring 21st century music for flute and piano.
Ms. Ruggiero has sung with numerous opera companies, such as the Natchez Festival Opera, Mississippi Opera and the Kentucky Opera in addition to placing in several competitions. Dr. Cheesman is associate professor of woodwinds at Delta State University and co-director of the New Music Ensemble. She is a member of the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra and has performed and given clinics at festivals throughout the country.
Dr. Shimizu is assistant professor of music/accompanist at Delta State University. As an accomplished pianist and chamber musician, she has performed with Lake George Opera in New York and Vermont. Recently, she has toured with the Natchez Opera Festival/Natchez Festival of Music in Mississippi and Louisiana.
