The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Department of Marketing and Public Relations received four professional awards at the Southern Public Relations Federation 2008 Conference in Sandestin, Fla., June 29.
Southern Miss Gulf Coast marketing and public relations staff includes Shelia White, director of marketing and public relations; Judy Isbell, director of Web-based marketing; and Charmaine Williams, public relations associate.
Of five entries submitted for the competition, four entries received awards. In the special public relations category, the department received the Certificate of Merit for the “Naming the Research Vessel” entry.
The department was also recognized for its work with the Katrina Research Center’s “Katrina Kollection,” receiving an Award of Excellence in the competition’s potpourri category.
In the category of writing for public relations, Williams received a Certificate of Merit for the news release “Tourism Management Students Tour the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.” Williams’ feature story “Quilt Project Raises Money for Hancock County Libraries” was recognized with an Award of Excellence.
The Certificate of Merit recognizes notable work in the field of public relations and the Award of Excellence is given to work worthy of recognition.
The SPRF is a network of public relations professionals from Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and North Florida. A total of 249 entries were submitted in this year’s regional competition.
