WHAT: The Southern Miss Golden Eagle Athletic Department will introduce the newest member of its staff, U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Jeff Hammond.
WHEN: 2 p.m., July 16, 2010
WHERE: M-Club Room, Athletic Center, The University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg.
SPECIFICS: Maj. Gen. Jeff Hammond earned both Bachelor’s (1978) and Master’s (1986) degrees from Southern Miss where he was a team captain and quarterback for the Golden Eagles. Brett Favre went on to break every one of Hammond’s passing records.
Hammond was the battalion commander who led one of the initial battalions into Bosnia in enforcement of the Dayton Peace Accords. He has served as the commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad, where he served 33,000 troops of the U.S. Army 4th Infantry Division and Multi-National Division Baghdad in their effort to protect the people of Iraq's capital city.
