WHAT: Southern Miss President Saunders Visits The University of Southern Mississippi Math Zone. Media welcome to attend for photo/interview opportunities

WHERE: The University of Southern Mississippi – Hattiesburg, Vann Hall (off West 4th Street, Old Charcoal Room in Vann Hall)

WHEN: 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008

SPECIFICS: Southern Miss President Martha Saunders will tour the Southern Miss Math Zone with College of Science and Technology Dean Rex Gandy.  Dr. C.S. Chen, chair of the department of mathematics, and Math Zone Coordinator Janice Fletcher, will discuss with Saunders the increase in College Algebra success rates due to implementation of the Math Zone. 

The Math Zone was started in spring 2007 by the Southern Miss College of Science and Technology dedicating facility and staffing resources to the program.  The Math Zone offers a computer-based learning system that allows students the opportunity to learn at their own pace while receiving more individualized instruction.  The Math Zone located in Vann Hall on the Hattiesburg campus, has 60 computers.
