A small electrical fire in the bathroom heater of a suite at Hillcrest residence hall on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus was contained this evening by the Hattiesburg Fire Department, according to university officials. No injuries were reported and damage is initially believed to be limited to the suite, located on the second floor of the building.

The fire occurred between 7:30 and 8 p.m., and residents were evacuated immediately. The Hattiesburg Fire Department responded quickly to the incident, and residents returned to their rooms around 9 p.m. after university and fire department officials determined the building was safe for occupancy.

The university’s Department of Residence Life has provided other accommodations for the students who lived in the suite where the fire occurred.
