The following events are being held at various locations in Hattiesburg and present both interview and photo opportunities for the media. Renowned DUI speaker to make appearance on campus
: 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
WHERE: Bennett Auditorium
EVENT: Mark Sterner shares his powerful story about the dangers of drinking and driving. Sterner was behind the wheel in a 1994 traffic accident that killed three of his fraternity brothers. He was subsequently convicted of three felony manslaughter charges and spent three years in prison. For information call 601-266-4829.

Golden Eagle Hotline with head football coach Larry Fedora
: 7-8 p.m.
WHERE: Alumni House Sports Grille in Hattiesburg
EVENT: Southern Miss head football coach Larry Fedora will update fans on the team’s preseason workouts and answer their questions at the Alumni House Sports Grille, as well as those who call in to the radio broadcast on WXRR-FM (104.5).

Pep rally kicks off 2009 football season
WHEN: 7-9:30 p.m.
WHERE: Fountain in front of Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building
EVENT: “Friday Night at the Fountain” features a pep rally for Saturday’s home football game vs. Alcorn State, along with a live performance by S.M.A.S.H. Refreshments and car bashing event included. For information call 601-266-4403.

Volleyball team hosts Invitational Tournament
: Reed Green Coliseum
EVENT: Southern Miss Invitational Tournament
SCHEDULE: 1 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. Sam Houston State; 3:30 p.m. – Louisiana Tech vs. Jacksonville; 7 p.m. – Southern Miss vs. Jacksonville

Golden Eagles open 2009 football season at home
: 6 p.m.
WHERE: M.M. Roberts Stadium
EVENT: The Southern Miss Golden Eagles host the Alcorn State Braves in the season opener for both teams and first meeting between the two schools on the gridiron. A variety of other activities will be held in conjunction with the game, including the following:
• Traditional Eagle Walk – 4 p.m.
• Junior Eagle Funland – 3-5:30 p.m. at Pride Field
• Black Daggars parachuting in with game ball
• Family of Steve McNair recognized during the coin toss
• City of Hattiesburg Day designated
