The College of Health at the University of Southern Mississippi has been awarded a $100,000 grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to advance education and training in public health finance.

Dr. Peggy Honore, assistant professor in the College of Health at Southern Miss, serves as the grant project’s director. Honore has been on assignment as Public Health Systems Researcher in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the past three years.

“This grant is basically designed to develop a plan that will include a list of projects and activities for advancing public health finance,” said Honore. “Part of that will also involve recommendations for Web site content and development, course work, plus educational and training venues in that field.”

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation focuses on the pressing health and health care issues facing our country. As the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to improving the health and health care of all Americans, the foundation works with a diverse group of organizations and individuals to identify solutions and achieve comprehensive, meaningful and timely change.
