Parking for The University of Southern Mississippi football games will include some changes from last year, but university officials expect Golden Eagles fans to have the same great game day experience they’ve come to expect.

This year, designated parking for Eagle Club members who have recreational vehicles (RVs) will be at the Payne Center parking lot next to Pride Field and across the street from the Joe P. Park football practice field, next to University Receiving. Loyalty Field will also be designated parking for Eagle Club, but for regular vehicles only. Tailgating will be allowed on the perimeter of Loyalty Field.

Southern Miss kicks off the 2009-10 season at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at home against Alcorn State University.

The new RV parking at the Payne Center will allow those fans easy access to Junior Eagle Fun Land and to the wide variety of corporate tents and their activities, said Kirstin Rayborn, assistant athletic director for marketing at Southern Miss.

“I believe we all know and understand that some of the parking changes have come as a result of the growth of the university, and of course we want to see Southern Miss advance,” Rayborn said. “But the new parking at the Payne Center right next to Pride Field is going to provide an outstanding atmosphere for the many families traveling to campus in motor homes, and for the tailgating groups gathered there.

“And our fans know how to tailgate.”

This fall, the city of Hattiesburg will provide trolley service for fans to games from designated areas of campus. The trolleys will run two and one-half hours prior to kickoff and continue service through the start of the game. They will operate mainly on the west side of campus in the outer lying parking lots.
