Tickets sales are moving briskly and unexpected donations are appearing as fundraising efforts continue toward the Habitat for Humanity home planned for University of Southern Mississippi employee Melissa Carpenter.

Groundbreaking is set for 10 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 4 at the Celeste Place subdivision in Hattiesburg. To help defray construction costs, a basketball fundraiser has been organized pitting the internationally-acclaimed Harlem Ambassadors against a group of notable Hattiesburg area celebrities and business professionals dubbed the “Habitat Hoopsters.” Gametime is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at William Carey University’s Clinton Gymnasium.

Carpenter serves as a secretary in the Student Activities Office at Southern Miss where donations have been pouring in since the Habitat announcement last week.

“We’ve had people come by who don’t plan on making it to the game but still want to contribute in some way,” said Audrey Chargolu, assistant director for Student Activities. “It’s so exciting to see members of the Southern Miss family eager to help out one of our own.”

Anyone wishing to make a donation can come by the Student Activities Hub from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday or call 601.266.4403.

Advance tickets to the basketball fundraiser for students and seniors are $7 and $9 for general admission. Day-of-the-game tickets for students and seniors will be $8 and $10 for general admission. All children age 4 and under will be admitted free. Tickets are available at all Citizens Bank locations, the Student Activities Hub at Southern Miss and the Habitat for Humanity office on Highway 42 in Hattiesburg. For more information call 601.266.6467 or 601.582.4663.
