SOUTHERN MISS MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
STAFF WIN AWARDS AT STATE CONFERENCE

LONG BEACH, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi was well represented recently at the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM) State Conference 2004 in Jackson.

Christopher Rolley, coordinator of public relations at Southern Miss Gulf Coast; and Shelia White, director of marketing and public relations at Southern Miss Gulf Coast, together received a first-place "PRism" award in the Specialty Report category for their entry, "Report to IHL Commissioner." Angela Cutrer, assistant director for news and marketing at Southern Miss, was awarded a PRism in the Feature Story category for "An Uncommon Man." Melanie Kemp, marketing and financial affairs manager at Southern Miss, also won a PRism in the Invitation category for "An Evening of Artistry."

"I am proud of our marketing and public relations staff who received such outstanding awards," said Lisa Mader, director of Southern Miss marketing and public relations. "These accolades exemplify the quality of their work and represent the excellence of Southern Miss."

The marketing and public relations staff also garnered other awards to go along with its first-place PRisms.

Rolley won two second-place awards of excellence in the Feature Story category for: "Southern Miss Gulf Coast Lends Helping Hand to Nursing Student" and "USMGC Helping Disabled Enjoy Golf, Tennis." He also was awarded another award of excellence in the News Story category for "USMGC Graduates First Doctoral Graduates."

White and Stephen Rouse, media productions manager at Southern Miss, together won a third-place certificate of achievement in the Brochure category for "Gulf Park Campus Map."

Catherine Sliman, manager of marketing and recruitment at Southern Miss Gulf Coast, was awarded two certificates of achievement: one in the Print Advertising category for "Experience the Tradition," and the other in the Video Programs/Production category, also for "Experience the Tradition."

Cutrer received a certificate of achievement in the Feature Story category for "Time Marches On."

Kemp was awarded two awards of excellence: one in the Potpourri category with Kellie Burnham for "Southern Miss Recruitment," and the other in the Brochure category with Linda Flanders for "All-American Rose Garden."

The PRAM State Conference, which was held March 24-25, is an annual event that is highlighted by a PRism awards luncheon, during which members are recognized for their excellent work in the field of public relations within the state. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour was this year's awards luncheon keynote speaker.

PRAM membership consists of approximately 400 public relations professionals from advertising and public relations agencies, corporations, nonprofit organizations, government, education, and industries, among many others.
