HATTIESBURG -- During
the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity's 69th Southwestern Province Council
meeting in Natchez, the Kappa Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity
at The University of Southern Mississippi won the Undergraduate
Chapter of the Year Award “Medium” for the second year
in a row.
The chapter was selected from 59 undergraduate chapters
in the five-state province for its exemplary campus leadership,
academic achievement and service to the civic community. The chapter
also won the "Best Web site" award (www.kappaiota.com).
Every semester the chapter hosts programs, activities, and functions
designed to promote the social, intellectual, and moral welfare
of its members and the campus community.
André J. Heath, assistant to the dean for
strategic initiatives in the College of Science and Technology at
The University of Southern Mississippi and adviser to the chapter,
won the Edward R. Ellois Jr. Award during the meeting. The award
is one of the highest awards available to an alumni member of Kappa
Alpha Psi fraternity, Inc. within the Southwestern Province. Heath
was selected for his performance as adviser to the undergraduate
chapter, meeting the fraternity’s criteria of administering
the duties of his position with judgment, initiative and resourcefulness
over a period of two years.
