Long Beach– The
University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Political
Science, International Development and International Affairs has
named a new director of the International Development doctoral (IDV)
program in Long Beach.
Dr. Shahdad Naghshpour has been a faculty member
of Southern Miss for over 20 years and has conducted several research
studies in economics and statistics, population and income distribution.
He holds a doctorate in economics from Oklahoma State University.
Naghshpour has also been a consultant to local
economic development authorities, such as Southern Mississippi Planning
and Development District, Gulf Regional Planning Commission and
Coastal Impact Assistance Program.
Naghshpour’s responsibilities include
assisting students’ progress towards their doctorate degree
in a flexible format and providing a research environment that nurtures
publication by faculty and students. He will also facilitate and
obtain external funding for the program and students.
The IDV program is an interdisciplinary social
science doctoral program targeted toward working professionals.
The goal is to offer the highest quality research-based social science
doctoral program possible while utilizing a blended delivery model
and allowing working professionals to continue to develop their
careers and maintain a family.
