SOUTHERN MISS GULF COAST APPOINTS NEW DIRECTOR

Long Beach– The University of Southern Mississippi’s Department of Political Science, International Development and International Affairs has named a new director of the International Development doctoral (IDV) program in Long Beach.

Dr. Shahdad Naghshpour has been a faculty member of Southern Miss for over 20 years and has conducted several research studies in economics and statistics, population and income distribution. He holds a doctorate in economics from Oklahoma State University.

Naghshpour has also been a consultant to local economic development authorities, such as Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, Gulf Regional Planning Commission and Coastal Impact Assistance Program.

Naghshpour’s responsibilities include assisting students’ progress towards their doctorate degree in a flexible format and providing a research environment that nurtures publication by faculty and students. He will also facilitate and obtain external funding for the program and students.

The IDV program is an interdisciplinary social science doctoral program targeted toward working professionals. The goal is to offer the highest quality research-based social science doctoral program possible while utilizing a blended delivery model and allowing working professionals to continue to develop their careers and maintain a family.
