BEACH, Miss. -- Anyone who is thinking about going into business
for themselves will be able to get started next month with a variety
of courses offered by The University of Southern Mississippi Small
Business Development Center.
The courses
are offered at various locations along the Gulf Coast. Course offerings
include the following:
• "QuickBooks
Pro for Beginners" will be offered from 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
March 12 and 19 at the SBDC, which is adjacent to the Southern Miss
Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. QuickBooks is a software program
that teaches the participant how to create financial statements,
invoices and other additional information. The fee is $159 before
March 5 or $169 thereafter.
• "Starting
and Operating a Business in Biloxi" will be offered from 8:30
a.m.-noon March 13 at the City of Biloxi Department of Community
Development, 676 Martin Luther King Blvd., Biloxi. This course is
geared to anyone wanting to start a business in the city of Biloxi
and will cover licensing, zoning, building permits, home-based businesses,
and legal and insurance issues. The fee is $20 if paid by March
6 or $25 thereafter.
• "Writing
a Winning Business Plan" will be offered from noon-3 p.m. March
20 at the Biloxi Port Commission Building, 693 Beach Blvd., Biloxi.
A business plan is required in order to seek financing to start
or expand a small business. The fee, which includes lunch, is $20
before March 13 or $25 thereafter.
• "Be
Your Own Boss" will be offered from 6-8:30 p.m. March 25 at
the Gulf Coast Business Technology Center, 1636 Popps Ferry Road,
Biloxi. The participants will have the opportunity to learn about
licensing, taxes, zoning, business planning and financing. The fee
is $20 in advance.
• "Show
Me the Money" will be offered from noon-3 p.m. March 27 at
the Biloxi Port Commission Building. The participant will have the
opportunity to learn about a variety of sources of financing from
local, state and federal agencies. The fee is $20 before March 20
or $25 thereafter.
