SOUTHERN MISS MARINE LAB OFFERS SUMMER SCHOLARSHIP

OCEAN SPRINGS -- The University of Southern Mississippi is offering a partial scholarship toward tuition or other academic expenses for the summer field program at the university's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. The Dr. John R. Sharp Memorial Scholarship provides financial assistance to one or more undergraduate or graduate students returning for a second summer of study or research at the laboratory. Applicants must register for full-time credit in one or both summer sessions or a minimum of five credit hours of independent research under the guidance of a faculty member in the Southern Miss Department of Coastal Sciences at the lab. Former students who forged lifelong friendships during the GCRL summer program established the scholarship in memory of Sharp, a fellow student and later an instructor for the program. Scholarships are also available for Mississippi residents from groups underrepresented in the sciences. For more information, e-mail dawne.hard@usm.edu or call (228) 872-4223.
