LONG BEACH --The University of Southern Mississippi's Small Business Development Center will host five workshops next month. The programs include:

  • "Small Business Doing Big Business with Industry" will be offered from 9 a.m.-noon, March 11, at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, 720 Krebs Ave., Pascagoula. This workshop prepares small business owners to achieve their goals in working with big business, featuring expert presenters who will share their expertise with participants on how to communicate with big business and industry representatives. The fee is $5 in advance or $10 at the door.
  • "Writing a Winning Business Plan" will be offered from 6- 8 p.m., March 18, at the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. Topics to be covered at this workshop include: business plan dos and don'ts, tips, length, content, and resources, among other topics. The fee is $15 in advance for Jackson County Chamber members, $20 in advance for nonmembers or $25 at the door for anyone who has not prepaid.
  • The workshop "QuickBooks Pro for Beginners" will be offered from 1-6 p.m., March 23, at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center Computer Resource Center at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. This hands-on computer workshop is for beginners interested in learning the basics of QuickBooks. Topics to be covered include: QuickBooks tools, financial statements, saving data, and invoices, among other topics. The early bird fee for this workshop is $135 if you register before March 16. The regular fee is $145 after March 16.
  • The workshop "Retirement Planning for Small Business" will be offered from 3-5 p.m., Feb. 19, at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center. The workshop will cover retirement planning tips for small business owners. The fee is $10 if paid by March 18 or $15 there after.
  • The workshop "Be Your Own Boss" will be offered from 9-11:30 a.m., March 31, at the Gulf Coast Business Services Corporation, 12121 Hwy. 49, Gulfport. General small business startup information will be covered, such as licensing, zoning, business planning and financing. The fee is $25 per person, to be paid in advance.

To register and prepay the workshop fee for any of the above workshops, mail a check made payable to The Southern Miss Small Business Development Center, 143 Beach Park Place, Long Beach, MS 39560.

If you prepay for a workshop, and are not able to attend, your workshop registration fee will be refunded in full. For a refund, contact the Small Business Development Center at least three working days prior to the workshop.

Workshops are subject to cancellation if pre-registration minimums are not met.
