HATTIESBURG
- Dr. Stan Clark, professor in The University of Southern Mississippi
School of Accountancy and Information Systems, has received the
Jerold J. Morgan Distinguished Professorship.
The two-year
appointment begins immediately and carries a stipend of approximately
$12,500 a year. The $250,000 endowment honoring its namesake was
established by the Jerold J. Morgan Foundation in 1994 and is administered
by the Southern Miss Foundation.
It is intended
to give Southern Miss faculty members a chance to advance professional
research and service efforts. Stipulations free the recipient from
summer full-time teaching assignments to provide an uninterrupted
time for research and service projects.
Clark received
his doctorate in accounting from the University of Kentucky. He
has a master's of professional accountancy and a bachelor's degree
in accounting, both from Southern Miss.
Clark's primary
teaching areas are financial accounting and individual income taxes.
He has published articles in Journal of Accountancy, Ohio CPA Journal,
Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, and Strategic Finance,
among others.
An active supporter
of continuing professional education, Clark has developed and taught
numerous courses for the Mississippi Society of CPAs, the Mississippi
Association of Public Accountants and other local CPA firms. In
1998, he was recognized as the Outstanding CPE Instructor by the
Mississippi Society of CPAs.
Clark's papers
have garnered a Certificate of Merit from the Institute of Management
Accountants, and have twice won outstanding manuscript awards at
the annual meeting of the Academy of Accounting and Financial Studies.
In 2000, he won the Southern Miss Excellence in Teaching Award.
The professorship
is named in honor of Dr. Jerold J. Morgan, who retired from the
Southern Miss faculty in July 1992 after 23 years of service that
included serving as the first director of the School of Accountancy,
and being named Distinguished Professor in 1986 and educator of
the Year in 1990. He died in 1994.
