SMALL BUSINESS WORKSHOPS SET AT SOUTHERN MISS GULF COAST

LONG BEACH -- The University of Southern Mississippi's Small Business Development Center will host seven workshops next month.

~The workshop "Creating a Web Page for Your Small Business" will be offered from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center Computer Resource Center at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The workshop is designed to provide hands-on experience for beginners who are interested in learning the basics of Web page design using Dreamweaver software. The fee is $99.

~The workshop "Adobe Photo Elements and Digital Cameras for Small Business" will be offered from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Feb. 10 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center Computer Resource Center at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. This computer workshop will cover downloading pictures from a digital camera into Adobe software. The early bird fee for this workshop is $89 if you register before Feb. 3. The regular fee is $99 after Feb. 3.

~The workshop "Advanced QuickBooks" will be offered from 8:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on Feb. 11 and Feb. 18 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center Computer Resource Center. This two-part workshop is for anyone who has already attended the "Beginners QuickBooks" class or for anyone who is familiar with the QuickBooks software. The early bird fee for this workshop is $255 if you register before Feb. 4. The regular fee is $265 after Feb. 4.

~The workshop "Show Me the Money" will be offered from 3-5 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center. Representatives from a variety of local, state and federal agencies will speak at this workshop regarding their agencies' loan programs and services. Speakers from the following organizations will be present: U. S. Small Business Administration, Mississippi Business Finance Corporation, Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, Hancock Bank and Greater Biloxi Economic Development Foundation. The fee is $15 if paid by Feb. 12 or $20 thereafter.

~The workshop "Be Your Own Boss" will be offered from 9:30 a.m.-noon on Feb. 21 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center. General small business startup information will be covered, such as licensing, zoning, business planning and financing. A representative from the Internal Revenue Service will cover forms of business ownership, tax forms and other pertinent information. The fee is $20 if paid by Feb. 13 or $25 thereafter.

~The workshop "Ask the Experts" will be offered from 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center. The workshop will feature experts from several fields (insurance, taxes, retirement planning, computers and legal issues), answering questions on specific small business subjects.

~The workshop "QuickBooks Pro for Beginners" will be offered from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break at noon, on Feb. 28 at the Southern Miss Small Business Development Center Computer Resource Center. This workshop is for beginners interested in learning the basics of QuickBooks. Topics to be covered include QuickBooks tools, financial statements, saving data, invoices and other pertinent information.

To register and prepay for any of the above workshops, mail a check made payable to The Southern Miss Small Business Development Center, 143 Beach Park Place, Long Beach, MS 39560.

If you prepay for a workshop and are not able to attend, your workshop registration fee will be refunded in full. For a refund, contact the Small Business Development Center at least three working days prior to the workshop.

Workshops are subject to cancellation if pre-registration minimums are not met.
