Released July 14, 2004

HATTIESBURG - In response to a campus survey, The University of Southern Mississippi's Cook Library has extended its hours of operation, beginning with the fall 2004 semester.

The new schedule will take effect Aug. 23.

"I believe our extended hours will be a great benefit to a majority of our undergraduate and graduate students, as well as our faculty, and addresses an important need," said Kay Wall, University Librarian.

The hours for Cook Library will be Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - midnight; Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday, noon - midnight.

Jody Hicks, a senior journalism major from Petal, said the new library schedule will help him and many other Southern Miss students. "A lot of students here have jobs, and they may not get off from work until later in the day, and they need the extra time to have access to the library to get information," Hicks said.

Hours of operation for the Curriculum Materials Center will be Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Saturday, closed; Sunday, 2 - 6 p.m.

The Music Resource Center's operating schedule will be Monday - Thursday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, closed; Sunday, 3 - 9 p.m.
