HATTIESBURG
-- Joy Hamilton has joined The University of Southern Mississippi's
Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) as manager, where
she will be responsible for managing CARE projects and the Survey
Research Laboratory.
Hamilton received
an undergraduate degree in health administration from Southern Miss
in 1998, and a dual master's in public health and business from
Southern Miss in 2001. She comes to Southern Miss from the Houston
office of Accenture, an international consulting firm specializing
in information technology and business processing consulting.
Hamilton said
that she welcomed the chance to come back to Southern Miss.
"I really
enjoyed Southern Miss as a student, and look forward to the opportunity
to work at Southern Miss," Hamilton said. "Also, I love
the Hattiesburg area, and said if I ever had a chance I would come
back."
Hamilton is
replacing Becky West, who is leaving to attend medical school after
two years with CARE.
CARE offers
a wide range of services, including program evaluation, policy analysis,
focus groups, statistical analysis, strategic planning, utilization
studies, and workshop and training programs.
The center
was founded in 2001 with the goals of assisting area agencies, health
care providers and industry; creating a multidisciplinary infrastructure
to foster faculty research and service to the community; and enhancing
educational opportunities for students through research and application.
CARE's Survey
Research Laboratory provides a variety of research services to public
and private agencies through use of a telephone survey system. "It's
going to be a great opportunity," Hamilton said. "The
center is growing. We have a series of great projects lined up for
the fall."
CARE is headquartered
within the College of Health, under the direction of Dr. Joan Exline.
