JOINS SOUTHERN MISS RECREATIONAL SPORTS
-- Dr. Susan Bone has been named as assistant director for wellness
at Recreational Sports at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Bone has an extensive background in the organization and implementation
of wellness and fitness programs. In addition to her experience
with such programs, she also has a history of working with the public
on behavior modification and prevention and intervention education.
Bone will direct the employee and student wellness programs, oversee
the Fitness Assessment Center and develop services, programs and
events for employees and special populations. Most recently Bone
had been employed as a behaviorist with Forrest General Hospital.
She will officially begin her duties with Southern Miss July 7.
COLEMAN WINS CHEMISTRY AWARD
-- A graduate student in the department of chemistry and biochemistry
at The University of Southern Mississippi recently received the
W.H. Peterson Award at the 2003 American Chemical Society Meeting
in New Orleans. Tricia M. Coleman, of Coleridge, Neb., received
the award, which is presented annually to a single winner for the
best student presentation in the biochemical technology division.
The title of Coleman's presentation was "An Investigation into
the Size-Activity Relationship of Catalytic RNA." Coleman received
a plaque, cash award and funding for research supplies. She is under
the supervision of Dr. Faqing Huang, associate professor of chemistry
at Southern Miss.
