HATTIESBURG – Several
University of Southern Mississippi staff members won awards in a
variety of categories at the annual College Public Relations Association
of Mississippi conference, held recently in Biloxi.
*Steve Rouse, media productions manager for
the Southern Miss Department of Marketing and Public Relations,
swept the Black and White Photography competition, taking first
place for his photo "Criminal Justice Dog," second place
for "Krewe of Kids" and third place for "Easter Hat
Parade." He also took second place in the TV Spots Category
for "Eustachy-McNelis Era Begins."
*Judy Isbel, coordinator of marketing, public
relations and recruiting for Southern Miss Gulf Coast, received
first place in the Advertisements Category for "International
Development Ph.D. Program ad in Economist Magazine." Isbel
also took second place in the Power Point Presentation Category
for "Presentation to New IHL Board Members" and second
place in the Web site Category for "International" and
second place in the PR Innovation Category for "International
*Shelia White and Isbell took third place in
the PR Campaign Category for "Jackson County MBA Announcement."
White also took third place in the Creative Partners Category for
"Issues and Answers Lecture Series."
Southern Miss also took first and second place
in the Creative Partners Category. The USM Gulf Coast Research Laboratory,
the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Mobile Bay
National Estuary Program took first place for "AMRAT PR"
by Linda Skupien, Harriet Perry, Dale Diaz, David Yeager, Chris
Snyder, the MDMR Public Relations Office and Lee Yokel. Second place
also went to USM GCRL for "Selected Plants of Grand Bay National
Estuarine Research Reserve and Grand Bay National Wildlife Refuge"
by Shelia Brown and Chris Snyder of the J.L. Scott Marine Research
Education Center and Aquarium; Diana Reid, GCRL; Jennifer Buchanan
of the Department of Marine Resources, Grand Bay NERR; and Linda

the annual fund for the Southern Miss College of Business, and Rick
Bice won first place in the Special Publications Category for "Joint
*Chris Mapp, Southern Miss Marketing and Public
Relations assistant director of news, took first place in the Sports
Stories Category for "Sixth-ranked Southern Miss Table Tennis
Team to Play for National Championship" and won second place
in the Feature Stories Category for his story "Where Eagles
Dare." Mapp, who also serves as editor of the Eagles' Eye,
Southern Miss' faculty and staff news publication, shared first
place with Rouse; former Southern Miss Publication and Printing
graphic designer Ann Mapp; and Southern Miss Marketing and Public
Relations Assistant Director of News David Tisdale in the category
of Tab Publication.
*Tisdale also won second place in the News Stories
Category for his story "Hattiesburg Veteran to Travel With
Southern Miss Group for return to site of Normandy Invasion."
