-- A state-of-the-art public aquarium and dramatic use of green
space will be the centerpiece of the new Point Cadet master plan to
be unveiled in a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 27, in
the auditorium of The University of Southern Mississippi's Scott Aquarium.
The team of
consultants fielded by the Jackson architecture firm Dale and Associates
will present the plan that includes a new $60 million, 78,400-square-foot
aquarium. The report will also cover immediate and long-range recommendations
for the existing J.L. Scott Marine Education Center and Aquarium,
parking, public open space and site improvements, market and financial
analysis and visitation projections.
H. Walker, Scott Aquarium administrator, said the Point Cadet master
plan committee worked with the consultants for more than a year
on the plan. Composed of representatives of the Southern Miss Gulf
Coast Research Laboratory and Scott Aquarium, the city of Biloxi,
the Isle of Capri, the Secretary of State's office and consultants,
the committee met last month and approved the plan for presentation
to the public. The committee is hosting the public presentation.
