HATTIESBURG -- The 2004 Mississippi Holiday Spectacular will mark its fifth year in presenting a Fourth of July celebration event in the Hattiesburg area. Jay Dean, event organizer and music director of The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, said this year's event at 8 p.m. July 2 is going to be "a guaranteed crowd pleaser."

The event will be held at Pride Field next to the Payne Center on the Southern Miss campus.

"All American Jazz" is this year's theme, and it will pull together all the key ingredients-fun, music and fireworks--for a traditional Fourth of July celebration. Joining the orchestra are jazz vocalists Seth Tucker, Dean Bellais and the Chris Cortez Quartet. Jazz instrumentalists Bill Murphy and Larry Panella will perform as well.

As tradition has it, the orchestra will close the evening with a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," complete with blasting cannons, courtesy of Camp Shelby, and a professional fireworks display at 9 p.m.

Admission is free. For more information, call the Southern Miss Symphony office at (601) 266-4001.
