OCEAN SPRINGS --Tables of Mississippi high and low tides are available for 2004, compliments of The University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery.

Single copies are available free at the GCRL in Ocean Springs, at the J.L. Scott Marine Education Center and Aquarium in Biloxi or by calling (228) 872-4200.

The tables provide information on tides for Pascagoula, Biloxi and Bay St. Louis as well as times for the rising and setting of the sun and moon. The three geographic areas are in one 36-page booklet. Tide information for Horn Island Pass, Ship Island Pass and Cat Island is online at

Dr. William E. Hawkins, executive director of the GCRL, noted that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's process of refiguring the standard mean sea levels every couple of decades has created occasional slight variations this year between NOAA's online tables and tidal forecasts on calendars and other printed materials.

"Every now and then there may be fractions of an inch difference or a few minutes' difference on times for highs or lows between forecasts provided by the software we use and NOAA's forecasts," he said. NOAA tide information is available on the GCRL Web site. The site also provides a link to information about NOAA's updating process.
