HATTIESBURG – The
University of Southern Mississippi will offer contract and project
management courses this year at the Stennis Space Center Conference
Center, with Harry Cleaver Jr. to serve as instructor for all three
The first course, Basic Government Contracts
Management, will be offered June 27 - July 1. Participants will
have the opportunity to learn the key concepts of federal government
contracting via Requests for Proposals. Both new and experienced
staff benefit from numerous real-world examples to avoid the pitfalls
of Federal Acquisition Regulation 15 procurements.
Other topics to be covered in this course include
understanding the federal government procurement system; legal aspects
of government contracting; required and optional contract clauses;
contract types and structuring; cost and price analysis; and elements
of contract administration.
The second course, Project Management Fundamentals
will be offered August 15-19. In this course, participants can learn
the major elements of project management during planning, initiation,
and execution with emphasis on federal high-tech projects with hard
or soft deliverables, as well as participation in practical exercise
in requirements analysis, WBS generation, scheduling aspects, risk
management, and earned value analysis.
The third course, Advanced Contract Management,
will be offered Oct. 10-14.
The course gives participants an opportunity
to understand key contractual concepts of Federal Acquisition Regulation
15 procurements, along with proposal preparation and contract negotiations.
Other topics to be covered include proposal preparation; current
procurement issues; subcontract management; effective negotiations;
cost accounting standards and principles; and financial management
of government contracts.
All three courses will be held at the SSC Conference
Center's Santa Rosa Room from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fee for each
