BOARDMAN LECTURE SERIES SET TO BEGIN NOV. 4
By Angela Cutrer

HATTIESBURG - The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Management and Marketing's first Boardman Lecture Series presentation for this academic year is set for noon Nov. 4 in Joseph Greene Hall, Room 303.

The event's speaker is Dr. Tracy Suter of Oklahoma State University.

"Dr. Suter was one of our fellow marketing colleagues at Southern Miss for several years," said Dr. Alvin J. Williams, professor in the Southern Miss Department of Management and Marketing. "He has become a recognized expert in the areas of consumer actions and the marketing and public policy area."

Suter's presentation, "Maximizing Earnings and Price Fairness Perceptions in Online Consumer-to-Consumer Auctions," will focus on how consumers "evaluate and are influenced by price-related information in a flexible pricing context: an online auction."

An assistant professor of marketing at Oklahoma State University, Suter received his doctorate from the University of Arkansas. His research interests include electronic commerce, public policy considerations regarding intellectual property, and integrated marketing communications. His research work has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal for Business Research, Corporate Reputation Review, Psychology and Marketing, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Journal for the Advancement of Marketing Education, and Marketing Education Review, in addition to several regional, national, and international conference proceedings.

He has received numerous awards and grants for both research and teaching activities, including the Society for Marketing Advances' Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Teaching Competition Award and the University of Arkansas Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is also vice president of research and publications for the Society for Marketing Advances.

"Dr. Suter is an accomplished scholar with a national reputation in the area of auctions," Williams said. "This area is critical to both business-to-business customers, as well as consumers. "While at Southern Miss, Suter achieved distinction as an excellent teacher. Students made a special effort to take his courses. He also received the Outstanding Teaching Award given by the Society for Marketing Advances.

"It is special and a delight to welcome Suter back to Southern Miss. The presentation should be of value to both academicians and practitioners."

The Joe Boardman Lecture Series is named after a dedicated Southern Miss alumnus from the Coast who contributed to the College of Business and Economic Development to set up this series.

"He thought it was important to use this forum to share and exchange knowledge among scholars and practitioners," Williams said. "Funds from his endowment have been used to sponsor these events." In addition, Boardman funds are also used to co-sponsor a yearly event with the Honors College to bring in well-known speakers to lecture on business issues.
