SOUTHERN MISS GULF COAST SPONSORS BUS TRIP TO HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME

LONG BEACH - There's good news for Golden Eagle fans on the coast.

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast has scheduled "Ride to the Rock," a chartered bus trip to the Nov. 1 homecoming football game. This is an opportunity for Gulf Coast students, faculty, staff and Golden Eagle fans to enjoy the game with their Hattiesburg counterparts.

"We are one university separated only by miles," said Dr. Shelby Thames, president of Southern Miss. "Southern Miss is finding new ways to unite Hattiesburg and the Gulf Coast, with this bus trip serving as one of the many activities focused toward this goal."

Southern Miss Gulf Coast students and employees are putting their support behind this trip.

"It's a wonderful thing," said senior Chris McFarland. "Anything to bring the campuses together."

Kady Beauoi, case manager for the Citizenship and Justice Academy at the Gulf Park campus, was excited to hear about the bus trip and agreed that it is a great opportunity for Southern Miss fans on the coast. "This bus trip is absolutely a good idea; we need to get to the game," she said.

Desiree Cuevas, a senior elementary education major from Gulfport said, "It's a good idea, and I will be on the bus."

Those who take the bus trip will not have to worry about parking and will have more time to participate in the various activities planned for homecoming such as the homecoming parade, Eagle Walk, and tailgating in "The District."

The bus will leave the Gulf Park campus the morning of the game at 9 a.m. for the scheduled 2 p.m. game and leave Hattiesburg at 6 p.m., depending on when the game ends.

Tickets in the student section for students taking six or more credit hours will be free with a valid student I.D. Students can purchase guest tickets at the Hattiesburg ticket office before the game or by calling 1-800-844-TICK. The prices are $12 for adults and $10 for children 14 and under.

Fan tickets in section B, which normally cost $25, will cost only $14 per person.

If you would like to "Ride to the Rock" by chartered bus, you can purchase a ticket for an additional $5.

For fan tickets and bus tickets, stop by Business Services or the Evening Monitor's Office both located on the first floor in the Administration Building at the Gulf Park campus. You may also call the Department of Marketing, Public Relations and Recruitment at (228) 865-4573.
