HATTIESBURG - The University of Southern Mississippi Office of Community Service Learning and AmeriCorps VISTA will sponsor Make a Difference Week Oct. 25-30 on the university campus and in the Hattiesburg community.

Southern Miss students will have opportunities to make a difference through volunteerism with activities such as clothing and canned food drives, a 'Paint Southern Miss Pink' ceremony and sponsoring a daily information table about breast cancer awareness, as well as volunteering at two area after-school programs.

Make a Difference Week is associated with the Points of Light Foundation and is an annual event that takes place every October. Last year, 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer on that day, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of communities across the country.

For more information on Make a Difference Week, contact Heather Wells of the Southern Miss Office of Community Service Learning/AmeriCorps VISTA at (601) 266-5074.
