HATTIESBURG – For small- and medium-sized businesses
whose facilities were destroyed or badly damaged by Hurricane
Katrina, the College of Business at the University of Southern
Mississippi is offering free consulting services to help businesses
resume or expand operations using the Internet.
Dr. Chang-Tseh Hsieh, professor of management information
systems, is spearheading the effort that will offer businesses
the following:
* help in assessing the feasibility of expanding operations
to the Internet;
* technical assistance in setting up a Web store;
* help with using Web-based infrastructures to reconnect with
existing customers and suppliers;
* training skills necessary for running and managing a business
on the Internet; and
* assistance dealing with issues related to security and government
compliance.
“Many owners may be facing financial problems, and we may
be able to help them get their online operations up and running
in a very short period of time,” said Hsieh, who has extensive
experience in database management and Internet commerce.
Other professors involved in the project are Dr. Farhang Niroomand,
associate dean and professor of economics, and Dr. Linghui Tang,
assistant professor of international business. Both Niroomand
and Tang are involved with the Information Technology for International
Business incubator as project director and project manager,
respectively.
