A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will conduct an on-site assessment August 4-7 at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Southern Regional Public Safety Institute (SRPSI) to ensure compliance with Mississippi standards and Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) standards. Law enforcement agencies seeking to be accredited by CALEA are required to comply with 159 professional standards in order to achieve accreditation status.
The CALEA assessment team will be composed of law enforcement practitioners from out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review agency policies and practices, interview personnel and closely examine files kept by SRPSI specifically in regard to accreditation. As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments regarding SRPSI by telephone. This will occur Wednesday, August 6 from 1-3 p.m. All those interested in participating are directed to call 601.266.6681 during that time. Comments must be limited to 10 minutes and directly address SRPSI’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.
Once assessors complete their review, a report will be issued to the state commission, who will then decide whether or not to award accreditation. Individuals wishing to offer written comments about SRPSI’s ability to meet the standards for CALEA are requested to write:
