The 66th annual American Legion Auxiliary Girls State will be held on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus June 1-6.

More than 250 young women from across the state will be on The University of Southern Mississippi Hattiesburg campus June 1-6 for the 66th session of the American Legion Auxiliary Magnolia Girls State. The weeklong program educates delegates about the mechanics of democracy through simulated political campaigns, legislative and judicial processes in the fictitious state of “Magnolia.”

The session will feature guest speakers, including elected officials from all levels of government in the state, who will give delegates their perspectives on public service, politics, and citizenship.

“This is one of the most excited groups of Girls State delegates I’ve seen,” said Girls State Director Brooke Cullen. “They are eager to be on campus and get started. I hope they take away a sense of citizenship from this program, and what part as a citizen they would play in their home communities.”

Delegates are nominated to Girls State based on academic achievement, leadership potential and community service by American Legion Auxiliaries across the state.
