American Legion Boys State Delegates Elect Officers

Delegates to the 72nd annual American Legion Boys State, held this week at The University of Southern Mississippi, voted for candidates for statewide office for the state of “Magnolia” recently. Elected officials, their hometown, high school they attend and office include from front row, left to right: Zach Canon of Brookhaven (Mississippi School for the Arts), governor; Willie Dunbar of Magnolia (North Pike High School), lieutenant governor; back row, left to right: Justin Mathews of Biloxi (St. Patrick High School), secretary of state; Jacob Berry, Brandon (Jackson Academy), attorney general; Ryan Harris, Brandon (Northwest Rankin High School), state auditor; Ellis Rustom, Greenwood (Pillow Academy), state treasurer; Eric Bennett, Sumrall (Sumrall High School), commissioner of insurance; and William Mencer, Greenville (Washington School), commissioner of agriculture.

Boys State is a week-long program giving rising high school seniors from across the state an opportunity to learn more about governance and politics and the local and state level through simulated campaigns and elections, development of legislation and jurisprudence.(Submitted photo)
