Dr. Wendy Atkins-Sayre, assistant professor in the Communication Studies Department at The University of Southern Mississippi, was recently awarded the Outstanding Alumni Award from her alma mater, Texas State University at San Marcos.

Each year the Communication Studies department at TSU selects an honoree as a part of its Communication Week celebration. This award honors alumni who have been successful in their profession and have positively affected the people with whom they work. Most importantly, those awarded serve as outstanding role models for current TSU students.

“Wendy was a big hit on our campus … again. She delivered two excellent presentations to our students and graciously accepted our award. We are so very proud of her,” said Dr. Steven Beebe, chair of the TSU Communications Studies Department.

Dr. Atkins-Sayre joined USM in 2007 as Director of The Speaking Center and scholar within the Communication Studies Department. She has published in the areas of social movement rhetoric, visual rhetoric, identity rhetoric, rhetoric and politics, and communication centers.
