University of Southern Mississippi Provost Dr. Denis Wiesenburg has announced that Dr. Patricia Biesiot, associate dean in the College of Science and Technology, will serve as interim dean during the college’s period of transition.
Biesiot will take over the dean’s role from Dr. Joe B. Whitehead, Jr., who left Southern Miss on July 31 to accept a position as Provost at North Carolina A&T State University. Whitehead was appointed interim dean of the College of Science and Technology in August 2009 and became dean in March 2010.
“I am honored to be named to this position,” said Biesiot, who has served on the faculty at Southern Miss for more than 23 years. “I look forward to continuing to serve the college and working with our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters in the community.”
The transition plan also includes appointments of Dr. Chris Winstead as interim associate dean and Dr. Jeffrey Evans as healthcare preprofessional advisor. A national search will be conducted this fall for a permanent dean.
