For the second year in a row, University of Southern Mississippi Broadcast Journalism students swept the Mississippi Associated Press College/University Contest, taking home six awards.
The students were lead by associate professor and broadcast journalism sequence head Dr. Mary Lou Sheffer. Sheffer has more than 10 years experience working in a professional broadcast newsroom.
“Winning the AP award is a great way to start my career,” said Keona Anderson, a senior from Hurley, Miss. “Having Dr. Sheffer as my professor has prepared me for the real world. She taught me to step outside my comfort zone and really challenge myself.”
Southern Miss won 1st place in the following categories:
