Experts from the Gulf South region offered economic updates and projections for the New Year during the Economic Outlook 2014 symposium held Jan. 23 at the Thad Cochran Center on The University of Southern Mississippi’s Hattiesburg campus.
A packed audience at the Thad Cochran Center ballroom heard the latest in economic developments and forecasts from guest speakers that included:
Newell, who attended graduate school at Southern Miss in 1994, noted the significant difference in the campus’ appearance.
“It sure didn’t look as good in ’94 as it does today,” said Newell. “The campus is really booming right now with new construction projects totaling more than $100 million. This is exciting for contractors, sub-contractors, current student and prospective students. It really makes the whole economy go around.”
Economic Outlook 2014 was hosted by the Southern Miss College of Business and the Trent Lott National Center with The First Bank of Hattiesburg serving as the title sponsor.
