Dr. Mary Graham, president of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), will serve as the spring 2012 commencement speaker for The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi.
A leader in both the Mississippi Gulf Coast community and in higher education, Graham earned her doctoral degree in higher education administration from Southern Miss, as well as her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. After becoming the 12th president of MGCCC in 2011, Graham took charge of the 100-year old, multi-campus institution which serves more than 36,000 residents annually in the four-county district.
“As an alumna of The University of Southern Mississippi, it is an honor to deliver the commencement address at the 2012 ceremony on the Gulf Coast,” said Graham. “I am pleased to be part of this great event, especially as some of the graduates are transfer students from MGCCC. Our institutions have a long term partnership in advancing higher education in our community.”
With her career beginning at MGCCC in 1987, Graham has held several administrative positions within the college including director of admissions/registrar, director of institutional relations and vice president of community campus. Graham also served as the vice president of the Perkinston Campus for the past 13 years.
Her accomplishments include being named one of South Mississippi’s Outstanding Community Leaders by The Sun Herald, Top 40 Under 40 for the State of Mississippi, and selection for the Leadership Mississippi Class of 2008.
