Main Content

The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Research Laboratory’s first Science Café,  “Sea Monsters: Myth and Mystery,” will be held Tuesday, August 30, from 6-7:30 p.m. in GCRL’s dining hall, located at 703 East Beach Drive in Ocean Springs.

It will feature a lively discussion about cephalopods, the legendary sea monsters of the deep -- giant octopuses, glowing cuttlefish, and ink-squirting squid -- and their use in art, literature, food and science. The discussion will be led by Dr. Phillip Lee a senior research scientist at the lab.

The Science Café offers those with minimal background in science, the chance to meet and discuss scientific issues in a relaxed social setting. Admission is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served. For more information visit www.sciencecafes.org, or contact Joyce Shaw, 228.872.4213 or joyce.shaw@usm.edu.
