Gulf Park Campus to Host Awareness Session on Employment for Young People with Disabilities

Main Content

The community is invited to attend the Mississippi Partnerships for Employment (MSPE) Awareness Session on Tuesday, July 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at The University of Southern Mississippi Technology Learning Center on the university’s Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

All young people, including those with developmental and intellectual disabilities, have an opportunity for competitive, meaningful employment and productive lives as citizens of Mississippi. This awareness session, which focuses on young adults who are of a legal employable age in Mississippi, will review MSPE activities in the state with a focus on Employment First.

Employment First is a philosophy that having employment in the community should be the expected goal for working-age adults with developmental disabilities. This goal should be the first priority of agencies providing employment services for adults with developmental disabilities.

These awareness sessions, which are free and open to the public, are being held across the state of Mississippi throughout the month of July. For more information, contact Dr. Jerry R. Alliston at 601.266.5979 or email jerry.alliston@usm.edu.
