Shane Hand of McCalla, Ala., was recently recognized at the 2011 Graduate Student Research Symposium at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Hand, a graduate student, is the son of Benny and Linda Hand. He has served on the Graduate Student Senate.
Hand’s work, “Transmitting Whiteness: Librarians, Children, and Literacy in the southern United States”, was selected by the Graduate Senate and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies as the top paper in his department. Winners receive recognition and a monetary award.
The symposium took place on March 18, 2011 and provided graduate students an opportunity to present their research to faculty, staff, students and members of the broader university community. This symposium is designed to enhance the scholarly environment for graduate students and to highlight the quality, innovative, and diverse scholarship of Southern Miss graduate students.
