In order to facilitate a smooth transition for new and returning students at The University of Southern Mississippi, the University Police Department will be blocking lots, closing streets, and directing traffic on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-17. Hattiesburg motorists should be aware of congestion on West Fourth Street as residents return to Century Park.
Move-In has been scheduled on Friday, Aug. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all Century Park residents, one-half of Wilber Hall, and Hattiesburg/Mississippi/Hickman halls. Move-In has been scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the “Quad” as well as all other halls.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, East Memorial will be closed to all thru traffic. All students, faculty, and staff are asked to vacate parking in the area of East Memorial and also the parking lot located behind the Southern Miss Clinic (Bolton Lot) at that time. The Roberts Lot (Quad) and spaces in front of Wilber Hall must also be vacated at that time. In addition all vehicles parked in the lot located east of Century Park must be moved. Vehicles not removed from these areas by 5 p.m. will be towed.
On Friday, Aug. 16, all faculty/staff are asked not to park on Southern Miss Avenue, Alumni Drive, Felder, Smalling Drive in front of the Foundation, Service Drive, College Drive in front of HPR, and the east HPR Lot to allow for parking of new residents. Faculty/staff parking will be allowed in the Kennard Washington Lot, but entry will be blocked off beginning at 1 p.m. to prepare for Saturday’s move-in day.
Access to East Memorial will only be given to students moving into Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Hickman Halls. Access to the Roberts Lot (Quad) will only be given to students moving into Pulley, Bolton, Roberts, and Jones Halls for unloading only. The Roberts Lot (Quad) will not be opened to parking during this time. It will remain blocked off in preparation for Saturday’s move-in day.
Note: East Memorial will remain closed on Friday. On Saturday access will only be granted to late arrivals and handicap access into Hickman, Hattiesburg, and Mississippi halls. All vehicles leaving this area, including the Bolton Lot, will not be granted re-entry until after 5 p.m. on Saturday.
