Nicole Musselwhite of Ocean Springs, Miss., was recently recognized at the 2011 Graduate Student Research Symposium at The University of Southern Mississippi.
Musselwhite, an anthropology major, is the daughter of Charles and Rebecca Musselwhite.
Musselwhite’s work, “Consequences of the Civil War: Disease Rates Associated with the Rural to Urban Migration of African-Americans in Natchez, Mississippi”, was selected by the Graduate Senate and Dean of the College of Graduate Studies as the top paper in her department. Winners receive recognition and a monetary award.
The symposium took place on March 18, 2011 and provided graduate students an opportunity to present their research to faculty, staff, students and members of the broader university community. This symposium is designed to enhance the scholarly environment for graduate students and to highlight the quality, innovative, and diverse scholarship of Southern Miss graduate students.
