Southern Miss Coordinating with Other Agencies on Tornado Relief

Main Content

The Center for Community and Civic Engagement at The University of Southern has joined several area agencies in providing a centralized location for those wishing to assist in relief efforts associated with the devastating tornado that struck Hattiesburg on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Volunteer Hattiesburg has secured a physical location for a large-scale Volunteer Response Center at the train depot at 308 Newman St. in downtown Hattiesburg. Unaffiliated volunteers seeking to help with disaster relief can go to the depot where they will be registered and deployed to various sites managed by local organizations.

The center has been opened through collaboration between Volunteer Hattiesburg; Recover, Restore, Rebuild Southeast Mississippi; the CCCE at Southern Miss; Lamar County and Forrest County Emergency Operations; the United Way of South Mississippi Volunteer Center; Mississippi VOAD partners; Volunteer Mississippi; Americorps programs and other city, community and faith-based organizations.
