Southern Miss Department Undergoes Administrative Reorganization

Main Content

In an effort to create better synergy, while strengthening the overall administrative structure, the School of Human Performance and Recreation (HP&R) at The University of Southern Mississippi has instituted a significant reorganization plan.

Under the new restructuring, the School will include three assistant directors, three administrative assistants and a coordinator of student services. Previously, the organizational chart featured one director, two assistant directors, two administrative assistants and a coordinator of student services.

Those assuming the roles of assistant directors and their areas of responsibility include:

  • Dr. Nancy Speed, student success
  • Dr. Gary Krebs, curriculum and assessment
  • Dr. Scott Piland, faculty development and research promotion

“These are outstanding members of the faculty with a depth of experience and excellent record of service,” said Dr. Mike Forster, dean of the College of Health at Southern Miss. “I’m confident they will excel in a reorganized structure that better aligns the School of Human Performance and Recreation operations with university and college priorities.”

HP&R is the largest unit within the College of Health, with seven degree-granting disciplines, 28 faculty members and more than 1,000 undergraduate majors and graduate students.
