University of Southern Mississippi graduate Jordan Mathews of Biloxi, Miss., has been recognized by national fraternity Pi Kappa Phi as the 2013 Dr. Phillip M. Summers Student of the Year.
The award recognizes the overall most outstanding student member of Pi Kappa Phi and the student who best exemplifies the ideals of Pi Kappa Phi in a student’s chapter, campus and community.
“It is an honor to have been given this distinction on a national level,” said Mathews. “It exemplifies the quality of the product Southern Miss and Pi Kappa Phi produce.”
Mathews received the award based upon his commitment to academics and community involvement which is shown through his multiple campus leadership positions and 3.952 GPA. He has served on the Eagle Connection student recruitment team, with whom he has traveled all over the state to connect students to Southern Miss.
“He is an amazing student and is so involved as a member of the fraternity. A wonderful example of a Southern Miss student,” said Gary Kimble, director of Fraternity Housing and advisor to Pi Kappa Phi.
Mathews received his bachelor’s degree in business management at Southern Miss and was a member of the Theta Alpha Chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. He is a first year law student at The University of Mississippi.
