The Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale will present “The Music of Mack Wilberg” in two upcoming concerts on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Dr. Wilberg serves as the current conductor for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The first performance is scheduled for Friday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Biloxi. The encore performance is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center auditorium at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

The music featured includes familiar hymn tune arrangements, such as, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” “Down to the River to Pray,” “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” and others. Dr. Wilberg’s new Requiem from 2008 will also be featured. Recently, Dr. Wilberg presented a joint performance of his music in Hattiesburg where several Chorale members were present and sang under his direction.

The concerts are free and open to the public. Celebrating its 17th year at Southern Miss, the chorale serves as a community outreach program welcoming members of all ages throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast. More than 80 members sing in the ensemble, which is led by John Flanery, assistant choral director at Southern Miss.
